(click News for details)Welcome! You came here to learn about Regina's funeral co-operative. Take a few minutes to read what we have to say.
The corporate funeral industry often encourages pre-buying because they say, "prices will continue to go up". The mere fact that funeral operators are sales oriented and profit seeking does not make them predatory, however the bereaved family often arrives at a funeral home with no experience in making funeral decisions, no idea of comparative prices, and no idea of which are minimum requirements and which are optional services. In such a situation there is little time for comparative shopping and decisions can be highly influenced by emotion. This puts the family at a disadvantage in the funeral sales relationship.
Prairie Lily Funeral Co-op believes there should be a non-profit alternative where families can commemorate the passing of their loved ones with dignity and simplicity rather than navigating their way through complex pricing options and pressurized sales techniques. Funerals do not need to be complicated or expensive; funeral co-operatives are being formed across Canada and the USA to provide families with funeral services at reasonable prices and without sales pressure. Hence Prairie Lily Funeral Co-op was established in Regina as a community service, not-for-profit, member-directed co-operative committed to providing the public with a full range of funeral and memorial service options.
A funeral co-operative promises:
- democratic control of the business
- transparency of the business operation
- not-for-profit pricing enshrined in its incorporation.
- reasonable prices and no up-selling practices.
Prairie Lily is in the process of raising the start-up capital necessary to acquire a licensed facility in or near Regina and begin providing funeral services. The start-up funds are coming from:
- sale of memberships
- charitable donations (Prairie Lily is a Canadian registered charity and can issue tax receipts)
- loans
Once in operation Prairie Lily will be self-sustaining and future charitable donations will contribute to furthering the objectives.
Providing not-for-profit funeral services to the community is a worthy cause; here's what you can do to help:
- Become a member. By investing $200 (which is totally refundable) you not only support the cause financially, you have the opportunity to direct this essential public service.
- Donate. Your donation, large or small will acknowledge the public benefit of affordability of funerals. You will also receive a tax receipt.
Our strategy is to sell a minimum of 1,000 memberships at $200 each. Fees are refundable on request or when applied to the member's funeral service costs. Furthermore founding members' contributions will be acknowledged through a discount on their services. Donations and memorial bequests will also be greatly appreciated and will be acknowledged in a roll of honor which will be developed in the future facility.
This is not a big investment; you are purchasing a $200 membership which is fully refundable to you. You are basically lending the money to a worthy cause. In return you will be assured that now and in the future Prairie Lily Funeral co-op will exist to provide the community with funeral services in a business model that you endorse and have supported.
This is a legacy worthy of your support.
Please join today.
If you choose not to become a member, you can still be part of this worthy cause; please consider making a charitable donation.
You will receive an official tax receipt recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency.
